Best Activities in Riviera Maya, Mexico
Snorkeling in the Cenotes. Found within the jungle of the Yucatan Peninsula are several cave cenotes - natural sinkholes formed from collapsing limestone bedrock. The water is crystal clear and turquoise blue, providing the perfect opportunity for both scuba diving and snorkeling. Small fish can be found in the water and bats cling to the stalactites throughout the cave. I visited the Cenote Dos Ojos just outside of Tulum and had an amazing time snorkeling and exploring the caves!

Exploring the Ruins of Tulum. Rising above the Caribbean Sea, this archaeological site dates back to 564 A.D., offering a unique glimpse into the culture and history of the ancient Mayan people. Wander around the well-preserved ruins, spot some iguanas, and enjoy the pristine beach! The entrance fee is 40 pesos ($2) and it's about 2-hours from Cancun.
Swimming with dolphins at Xcaret. This eco-archaeological park offers numerous family-friendly activities including swimming with dolphins, snorkeling, and exploring the underground rivers. Admission to the park isn't cheap - about $89 per ticket if purchased online - but it's a fun way to spend the afternoon if you're willing to splurge.
Spending the afternoon at Playa Del Carmen. Considered one of the best beach destinations in Mexico, Playa Del Carmen has plenty of white sandy beaches and turquoise blue water. I highly recommend taking a snorkeling excursion to one of the coral reefs off the shore or going scuba diving. I saw plenty of eels, stingrays, and colorful fish while scuba diving!
